The Wabash girls and boys cross country teams ran in the Huntington North Invite Saturday.

The Wabash girls finished 10th

First for the HS lady Apaches in their season opener was freshman Haylee Friend. Friend came in fighting for her place with a time of 24 flat in 43rd place. Our junior, Cali Kugler, came in right behind Friend in 44th place with a time of 24:06. Also finishing in the 24’s with her first high school career 5k was freshman Raegan Jones in 53rd place at 24:49. Ivy Beamer, this year’s sophomore, took 57th place overall and ran a quick time of 25:22. Following Beamer was another freshman, Ava Bishir, coming in at 25:57 and fighting for 65th place. Maya Howard, another freshman this season, snatched her spot in the last 100m at 27:00 in 73rd place. Rounding out the Apaches was our fearless senior, Grace La Mar. La Mar finished with a time of 28:35 and came in 82rd place.

The Wabash High School Boys Cross Country Team competed in their first meet of the season Saturday morning – the Huntington North Invitational, coming in 7th out of 15 complete teams.

Senior Dave Ford led the way for the Apaches, coming in 18th. Kaden Vogel wasn’t that far behind in 21st place. Jonas Church came in 36th, Chase Howard 60th, and Kasen Oswalt 85th. There were 131 runners in the field.

In the JV race Isaiah Cordes came in 5th, Brett Shull 34th, and Maverick Sommers 125th.

A great summer of training allowed Jonas Church, Chase Howard, and Kasen Oswalt to achieve lifetime PR’s in the first outing of 2022, while the other returners were not far from their personal best times.
