The Lady Vikings battled all 80 minutes on Wednesday against host Wawasee on their way to come from behind 1-1 tie.

Wawasee took the early lead in the first half at the 15 minute mark and maintained a 1-0 lead into the break. The Lady Vikings continued to apply pressure when at the 63 minute mark senior captain Jessica Brito was fouled just outside and to the right of the penalty area. Valley wanted a quick restart, however Wawasee recognized this and two defenders stepped up tactically and thwarted the attempt resulting in a full ceremonial restart by Brito who calmly waited for the whistle and sailed the ball high over the keepers outstretched hands and into the back of the net. (Just minutes earlier, Brito had a similar attempt that careened off the right post).

Junior defender Essie Ward was booked for a yellow card on a hard challenge late in the match but returned to the pitch strong to help stop Wawasee’s final surges at scoring.

Jetta Hughes went the distance in goal (her 4th complete match) with 15 saves and allowing only one goal (against 6 shots on goal).

Valley returns to action Thursday at North Miami in TRC conference action at 530 pm.

Valley climbs to 0-2-1 on the season (0-1 in the TRC).
