Manchester Volleyball Falls In Five Set Marathon
The Varsity Squire Volleyball team lost a tough 5 set TRC matchup to the visiting North Miami Warriors.
The Squires came out strong and opened up a solid lead in the first set due in large part to the the attacking of Olivia Neal and McKelvey Espeset. In the 1st set, the duo combined to have 7 kills on 18 attacks with no errors. Squires take the first set 25-18.
The second set was back and forth for awhile until North Miami went on a 6 point service run. The Squires closed the gap with a 4 point service run, but it was too little too late. Manchester loses the second set 21-25 and the match is tied at 1 set a piece.
Some inopportune hitting and serving errors for the Squires derailed an otherwise solid 3rd set. North Miami won the 3rd set by 3 points pushing the match in their favor 2 sets to 1.
A slow start to the 4th set was fixed by a 9 point service run by Paxton Baker which included 4 aces. The Warriors fought back to tie the game up at 23, but a kill by Aliala Atienza and an ace by Hadley West secured the 4th set for the Squires.
The final set was a back and forth contest that found North Miami stringing together a few short service point runs and Manchester not being able to put multiple point runs together. The visiting Warriors won the 5th set by a score of 11-15.
Manchester falls to 3-4 (TRC 1-1) on the year. The Squires will travel to Prairie Heights on Saturday for a tournament.
