The Death Valley Football team picked up their second win of the season after defeating the Northfield Norsemen 49-19.

The Viking offense wasted no time making their way into the endzone as Junior Wade Jones rushed the 65 yards on the first play of the game. The 2pt conversion by Junior Nate Parker put the Vikings up 8-0 with only seconds taken off of the clock. Six minutes later, Parker found the endzone on a 2 yard run and backed it up with the conversion to make 16-0 with 6:19 to go in the 1st.

Parker was able to make his way to the endzone toward the beginning of the 2nd quarter. Junior Cody Eastgate passed the 2pt conversion to Junior Landon Durkes to make it 24-0 early in the 2nd.

Eastgate found Durkes again but for six points this time with a PAT made by Freshman Gage Overby to make it 31-6.

In the third quarter, Sophomore Brandon Stiles carried the ball to the endzone at the 3:25 mark.

The fourth quarter saw Parker make his way back to the endzone with 8:45 left to go in the game and the last score for both teams.

The Vikings had 392 yards of total offense. 232 yards were picked up on the ground and 160 yards through the air. Cody Eastgate passed for 106 yards and was 4-4 with 2 TDs. Senior Marcus Jansma also completed two passes for 54 yards. Nate Parker led the team with 76 rushing yards followed closely by Wade Jones with 65 yards and Brandon Stiles with 64.

Parker and Jones also found success running routes with Parker catching passes for 72 yards and Jones with 57.

The Wrecking Crew Defence had a busy night on their hands. 23 different Vikings stopped plays on the defensive side of the ball. Nate Parker led the team with 5 solo tackles. Against a rush heavy offense, the Wrecking Crew held the Norse to only 74 rushing yards and was forced to punt on five separate occasions. 3rd and 4th down were crucial as Northfield was only able to convert on third down 3 out of 15 attempts, and 2 out of 6 attempts on 4th.

The Vikings improve to 2-0 (1-0 TRC) and will be back home next week as they host Peru with kickoff set for 7:00 PM.

We had another great meet on Saturday August 27,
weather was just about perfect cool lite breeze.

The boys had a good day Isaac Whetstone lead the boys with a 20:22 and 20th place. Eli Sterk, Christopher Marquez, Gavin Leininger, Christian Guzman, and Michael Leininger all ran well.

The girls also had a good day. Bailey Bussard, McKenna Lowe, both ran PRs at this meet by 10 seconds. Talia Holder Ava Minix also had respectable runs.

Chesnee Miller continues to run well, she ran her race the way I ask her to, not to start fast and build into the race and settle in till it’s time to turn it up, she had a nice little group of 4 girls off the front they were pushing each other till the end, in the last half mile she started to make the other 3 girls go or get left behind, in doing that she ran away from them and won the meet in a time of 20:19, setting the school record again.
