Wabash Wins JH Football Battles Over Northfield

The Apaches moved to 2-0 with a win over county rival Northfield Tuesday.

Michael Lepage and Preston Cantrell each had an interception on defense. The defense was also led by Mackey Sorg, Carson Amburgey, and Liam McCann. Harrison Mills scored the first touchdown of the game. Preston Cantrell had 3 rushing touchdowns and led the offense. Gabe Lepage connected with Quinlynn Campbell on the two point conversion

Despite the setback, several positives were taken away. Briggs Baker rushed for 28 yards while Josh Lara-menchaca contributed nine yards on three attempts.

Baker also filled in at quarterback after an injury, and complete Northfield’s first pass on the season. Kasen Fitch hauled in the reception for five yards.

Baker and Kasen Frank led the defense with 4.5 tackles each, with Baker recording two for losses.

Ian Blaylock had a forced fumble and Justin Brunett a tackle for loss to lead the Northfield defense. Cooper Good also snagged an interception.

The Northfield eighth grade football team amassed 78 rushing yards, but came up short against Wabash Tuesday night, dropping their contest 38-8.

Corbin Goshert was the Northfield workhorse, generating 77 yards on 18 carries. Lukas Southwick scored Northfield’s lone touchdown, breaking a couple tackles before finding the end zone on an 11-yard run. Southwick also punched in the two-point conversion for the Norse. Southwick finished with seven yards on 10 rushes while Cody Holmes added five yards on one attempt.

Defensively Southwick led the way with six tackles while Goshert added 4.5 and an interception. Isaiah Wideman had a pass defense late in the game. Rylan Turner and Eli Shoue both had tackles for losses.
