The Manchester Boys Varsity soccer team faced an undefeated Columbia City team on Thursday evening and battled to a 0-0 tie in a non-conference contest.

The Squires came into the game with a 5-1 record, while Columbia City was 6-0 coming in, having outscored their previous opponents 28-2.

The game was strongly contested, with both teams playing well and generating multiple scoring opportunities, but defense ruled the day. Kolby Haecker had his best game of the year in goal as he turned away every shot.

The Squires played a pressing style of offense which resulted in multiple offsides calls. Manchester’s best chance for a goal came with 8 minutes to go when a free kick by Nathaniel Miller hit the inside of the post and came back out.

Manchester’s record is now 5-1-1, and the next game is away at conference opponent Rochester next Tuesday, September 6.
