Outside The County-Maconaquah

The Maconaquah girls cross country team was the smallest school in the large school race. Add to that only 5 of the 8 team members ran due to illness or injury, and that makes for a stressful race…but not for this team.

The Lady Braves finished the day as Marion Invitational Champions, leading second-place Angola by 38 points!

The Lady Braves were led by junior Abby Jordan, who sacrificed a potential personal-record performance by pacing the freshmen girls in order to improve their overall times. Completing the first mile nearly 30 seconds slower than usual, she was in 26th place. By the second mile, she was taking control of the race, and she ended up winning the individual championship by 8 seconds!

Four of the five Lady Braves that ran earned a medal by placing in the top 35 places, and the fifth runner for Maconaquah just missed a medal by placing 37th overall.

The Maconaquah boys ran in the 25th Marion Invitational held at Indiana Wesleyan Univeristy and finished in 10th place overall out of 17 teams. The Braves were in the large school division and were smallest school racing in the meet based upon student population.

The Braves were led by junior Isaiah Wittenberg, who snagged another top-ten finish (7th place), running the 5K distance in 16:57. Fellow junior Kaden Miller also medaled for Maconaquah by placing in the top 35 (28th) with a time of 17:59. Sophomore Daylen Schrock (63rd, 18:58), freshman Kaden Hanson (66th, 19:00 PR), and junior Isaiah Moore (85th, 19:34) rounded out the scoring for the Braves.

Senior Quinn Richard ran a season-best time of 23:54 and finished in 165th place. Junior Jacob Sayger placed 170th and had a finishing time of 25:12.
