Manchester Boys Varsity Soccer continued its winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Huntington North on Tuesday evening.

The Squires got on the scoreboard first when a Huntington defender took down Michael Ortiz just inside the eighteen within the first minute of the game and a penalty kick was awarded. Ortiz took the PK and scored. Huntington evened the score with a goal in the thirtieth minute as they penetrated Manchester’s central defense.

In the second half, Nathaniel Miller saved the ball from going out of bounds close to the Huntington endline before sending a pass across the goal to Robert Iaione who put the ball in the back of the net. Huntington continued to pressure the Squire defense, and at one point, when goalkeeper Kolby Haecker had to come all the way out to the edge of the box to slow the Huntington attack, Trevor Heath had to make a goal line save, kicking the ball away at the last moment.

The Squires added a third goal with less then four minutes remaining, on a long pass up the right sideline from Iaione to Tyler McLain who fired the ball high into the goal, but less than a minute later, Huntington added one more goal on a header from a free kick to come back to within one goal.

The 3-2 victory extends the Varsity record to 9-1-1 on the season.

Following the Varsity victory, the JV team played one half, ending in a 0-0 tie, with an opportunity to win on a penalty kick, but failing to score the goal. The JV record moves to 3-1-2 on the season.
