Lady Apache Soccer Shuts Out Tri Central
The Wabash Lady Apaches picked up another strong non-conference win with a score of 4-0 over Tri-Central.
It was a great team win with every available player on the roster contributing on the field in tonight’s match. Senior goalkeeper Hannah Layne picked up another shutout on the season, with some really strong saves finishing the game with 15. This is Layne’s 5th shutout of the season and a career record for her. Junior Kiana Jones took over the defensive effort for the Lady Apaches and changed the pace and intensity of game with her play. Freshman Jaycee Jones also played an incredible defensive game with senior Abbie Boggs, junior Talia Carrillo and sophomore Graci Napier contributing to the shutout.
The Lady Apaches were once again offensively lead by senior Rylee Yoakum. Yoakum started the scoring momentum by putting away a pk awarded to the Apaches off a Tr-Cenral handball in the box. Yoakum’s 2nd goal was unassisted as she won the ball in the corner and turned to hit the far post for a beautiful goal. With 20 seconds left in the half, K. Jones put an amazing corner kick ball in front of the goal and sophomore Kait Honeycutt connected to shot that was deflected and freshman Andi Stout put a way great crash goal for her first career goal. In the 2nd half Yoakum finished her hat-trick with a great outside shot, deflected off of Tri-Central’s defense and goalkeeper. Contributing to shots for Wabash were Yoakum, K. Jones, Mattern, Stout, Honeycutt,, Napier, Boggs, junior Irma Robles and sophmore Abbi Hipskind. Wabash girls improve to 9-2 on the season, which ties the current Lady Apache win record of 9 wins on a season! The Wabash Lady Apaches are back in action Saturday at 10am on Alumni Field against the Eastern Lady Comets.
