Outside The County-Maconaquah
Results from Maconaquah for Monday, September 26th
There was a season long build up to this game with both Manchester and Maconaquah each going undefeated in TRC play up to this point. Manchester only had Maconaquah to beat to secure another TRC championship outright, but a Braves win ensures at least a share of the TRC crown, with the deciding game coming up this Wednesday when Maconaquah plays Peru in the final game of TRC action. If Maconaquah wins, the team will be outright champs, if Peru wins, Maconaquah and Manchester will share the title.
In the game tonight, Maconaquah was supported by a big crowd of parents and a rowdy, rocking student section. This was something that the team has never had the joy of experiencing. The boys apprecieate and were energized by all the support.
The two teams were very evenly matched with neither being able to find the net during regulation. Overtime rules for conference games include 2, 7 minute halves and if a tie remains at the end of OT, go to a Penalty Kick shoot out. With just 1.7 seconds left in the first OT half, Zach Sparks kicked a corner kick where Jackson Jones, then Nolan Jones were able to head the ball past the keeper. The defense was able to hold Manchester for the remaining 7 minutes and 1.7 seconds to secure the win.
The team is now 14-1 on the season and will play Peru on Wednesday at home. This will be senior night for the Braves and can secure the TRC outright championship.
