Wabash wrapped up the regular season with a trip to Class 1A #5 Carroll in Flora.

It was a heavyweight rematch of the 2021 Regional Semifinal. Both teams battled for the full 80 minutes and the goals were plentiful.

Carroll’s offense was in high gear, but the Wabash defense was matching their intensity for the 10 minutes before Jacob France broke the deadlock as he got behind the Cougar back line to finish a pass from Sol France. Carroll responded quickly getting an equalizer 2 minutes later off a corner kick. Carroll managed to score their second goal midway through the first half. Wabash’s defense held steady with Devin Coffman making a clutch stop late in the half to keep the game close.

The intensity picked up in the second half as the game opened up to become a back-and-forth affair. Carroll scored their third goal about 10 minutes into the half and then picked up their fourth on a defensive lapse during a free kick. Wabash didn’t give up when they were down 1-4 as Jacob France gathered another pass from Sol France to narrow the gap. The Apaches kept looking for scoring opportunities led by Kolton Wilson and Sol France driving the offense from the midfield. Carroll collected their fifth goal on a shot from distance that found the net but Jacob France responded with a shot from distance of his own that rounded out his hat trick.

Wabash continued to grind in the waning minutes but was unable to claw another goal back.

The Apaches end the regular season at 8-5-1. They ended up 4-2 in the TRC with was good enough for 3rd place. Wabash plays the first game of Sectional 22 against conference rival Tipp Valley on Monday at 6 pm at Alumni Field.
