Manchester Swimmers Sink Elwood

The Manchester swim teams defeated Elwood Monday.

The Manchester girls swim team won every swimming event in route to a 106-73 victory over Elwood on Monday night. Manchester opened the night with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay. The relay team of Miriam Struble-Hedstrom, Hannah Eberly, Josie Briner, and Sophie Anglin finished first with the team of Rachel Garcia, Evyn Fox, Noelle Walt, and Gracie Dale just behind. Briner dominated the 200 freestyle winning by over 45 seconds. Garcia easily took first in the 200 IM with Noelle Walt taking second with a personal best time. Eberly followed with a victory in the 50 freestyle with Anglin taking second. Briner continued her perfect night with an easy victory in the 100 fly and Garcia followed up with an easy win in the 100 freestyle. Evyn Fox lowered her lifetime best in the 500 freestyle by over 7 seconds to win and Struble-Headstrom swam well to take third. The 200 freestyle relay team of Eberly, Garcia, Anglin, and Briner were just off school record pace to take the victory and the team of Adia Selleck, Laynen DeLaughter, Dale, and Fox finished third. Walt continued her strong night to take first in the 100 backstroke with another personal best time while Wynter Harris lowered her personal best time to finished third. In the 100 breaststroke Eberly, Dale, and Sofia Siano finished 1-2-3 to sweep the event for the Squires. In the final event of the night Fox, Anglin, Walt, and Dale took first in the 400 freestyle relay to complete the sweep of first place finishes. Manchester is now 2-3 on the season in dual meets and will hit the road on Wednesday to take on Tippecanoe Valley.

Liam York and Cale Bennett won four events each and Caden Marcum won three to lead the Manchester boys swim team to victory over the visiting Elwood Panthers. York, Bennett, Marcum, and Tristan Schmid opened the meet with a comfortable win in the 200 medley relay. Next Marcum took first in the 200 freestyle with a season best time. Bennett then cruised to first in the 200 IM and York did the same in the 50 freestyle. Caden Marcum swam another season best in the 100 freestyle to take second and Bennett then knocked nearly 20 seconds off his lifetime best in the 500 freestyle to take first. In the 200 freestyle relay, York, Bennett, Marcum, and Roberto Iaione took first in a close finish. After Iaione took second in the 100 backstroke, York and Schmid went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke to seal the meet for the Squires. Manchester will travel to Tippecanoe Valley on Wednesday.
