Northfield/Wabash Girls Wrestle At Lafayette Jeff

The Northfield and Wabash girls wrestling teams participated at Lafayette Jeff Girl’s Classic Saturday.

The tournament hosted 52 teams totaling over 300 young women from all over the state. Included were numerous top 5 ranked ladies in various weight classes. Northfield placed 9th as a team in the tournament.

Four of five of the Lady Norse placed in their respective weight classes. Freshmen Ella France placed 6th in the 113 lbs weight class, losing the number 3 ranked wrestler in the state in her final match. Junior Alexis Gates finished 4th in the 160lbs class. Senior Asia Miller places 5th in the 138 lbs class going toe-to-toe with two state-ranked girls in two of her matches. Sophomore Ella Gahl went undefeated on the day, completing the most significant weight class of 132 lbs with over 35 girls in three brackets.

One significant accomplishment of the day was that Ella Gahl tied the all-time season takedown record with 93. The takedown record is held by Jared Kirtlan and has stood for a decade.

Great day of wrestling from our lady Apaches at the Jefferson high school women’s open, there was great competition and our ladys competed well all day.

106a: Olivia Harden takes 2nd place going 2-1 on the day taking out state ranked #5 and #11 girls and losing her finals match by decision to #4 ranked girl.

145: Paloma Shull takes 3rd place going 3-1 on the day. Her only loss was to the #1 ranked girl in the state.
