The Manchester boys swim team fell to Columbia City Monday, while the girls team stroked to a tie.

Liam York was a double winner, but the Manchester boys swim fell to Columbia City 99-34 on Monday night. York took first in both the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, posting season best times in both. Cale Bennett took second in the 200 IM and third in the 500 freestyle, posting a personal best in the 500 and breaking the 6 minute barrier in the process. In his final meet before returning home to Germany, Tristan Schmid took second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 100 breaststroke with lifetime bests in each race. York, Bennett, and Schmid teamed with Kenneth Martin to finish third in the 200 medley relay and second in the 200 freestyle relay. Manchester will travel to Bluffton on Thursday to take on the Tigersharks at 5:30.

Despite the 79-79 tie tonight, the Lady Squire swimmers had a lot to smile about, posting several season bests and first-place finishes to compete with a strong Columbia City team. Josie Briner made it a night to remember, racking up three victories including a season-best 200 IM and 100 fly, and, along with Hannah Eberly, Rachel Garcia, and Noelle Walt, tied their own school record for the 200 free relay.

Garcia had a great night of her own, earning wins in the 50 free, 100 free, and the aforementioned 200 free relay. Walt and Sophie Anglin were right behind Garcia in the 50 free, both picking up season-best times en route to a big point haul for the Squires.

Other season/personal bests include Evyn Fox in the 500 free, Miriam Struble-Hedstrom in the 200 IM, and Laynen DeLaughter in the 100 free.

The Squires also celebrated Senior Night tonight, holding a ceremony during the diving break to honor our seniors and exchange students. We’d like to shout out Josie Briner, Lilli Meyer, Sofia Siano, Merel Verhulst, and Sveva Cattaneo for their contributions this season. Their hard work and good attitude have been the backbone of the team this season.
