Late Surge Lifts Lady Apaches Past Squires
The Wabash Lady Apaches would score the last 11 points of the game to defeat Manchester 57-46 Saturday.
Wabash would jump out to a 12-4 lead after a quarter and dealt with foul trouble in the second as they maintained the 8 point lead heading to half.
The lead would grow to 12 but Manchester would make a run to cut the lead to 3 after three quarters and then would grab a 42-41 lead early in the fourth. The Lady Apaches would outscore Manchester 16-4 to end the game and grab the eleven point win.
Wabash, now 12-6, 4-2 , got scoring from: Kierra Wilson 18, Kait Honeycutt 15, Libby Mattern 8, Hannah Layne 7, Jade Stumbo 5 and Rylee Yoakum 4. Wilson pulled down 6 boards, Yoakum handed out 4 assists and Layne had 4 steals to pace the Lady Apaches.
Wabash will be back in action on Wednesday at Cass. Try his will be varsity only and starts at 6:00.
Brookelynn Buzzard led Manchester with 18 points. Gracie Lauer had 8 points and 3 rebounds. Hadley West had went 2/4 from 3s and had 2 assists and 2 rebounds. Peyton Ream had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Molly Schannep had 4 points. Aliala Atienza and Kim Schroll each had 2 points. Olivia Neal had a great presence and battled inside defensively. The ladies will be back at home next Saturday against Rochester.
The JV Lady Apaches dropped a close one at home to Manchester falling 31-30. The teams were tied 17-17 at half and Manchester lead by 3 going into the fourth. The game went right down to the wire but Wabash, now 11-7, couldn’t get a couple final attempts to fall.
Bryleigh Boggs led the Lady Apaches with 10 points and 7 renounds while Janika Stumbo added 7 points and 6 rebounds.
Wabash will be back in action next Saturday at North Miami.
