Maconaquah High School Boys Varsity Swimming beat Eastern High School – Greentown 119-64

The boys wrapped up their dual meets with a win over Eastern. I was able to mix up the lineup and see what they could do in some events different than normal. Ian Kohls swam the 200 IM for the first time and dropped 3.8 sec in the 100 Free. Quinn Richard dropped .2 in 50 Free. Jesse Santiago dropped 1.2 in 50 Free. Jarrod Nead dropped .5 in 200 Free and .2 in 50 Free. Luke Abbott dropped .3 in 50 Breast and 1 sec in 100 Free. Brady Dausch completed his hardest dive list of the season. He is looking good and ready to compete at sectional. He also dropped 17 sec in the 100 Free. P.J. Higgins dropped .7 in 100 Free and 1.8 in 50 Free. Garrett McManus got to swim the 100 Fly dropping 1.6 sec and the 100 Breast(1st time since 5th grade). He dropped 27 sec. Cole Nye dropped 1.8 in 100 Free. Ryley Rodkey dropped 13 sec in 500 Free. Victor Riker swam the 500 Free for the second time. He dropped over a minute. Drake Samuel dropped 13 sec in 200 Free, 1.9 in 100 Free, and swam the 100 Back for the first time.

The Golden Goggle Awards go to Coen Thompson and Aiden Williams. Coen has improved so much this season. He had a great swim in the 100 Fly dropping 1.4 sec. Aiden has improved in diving so much that it looks like a completely different person. I saw a change in him after his first meet. I saw his confidence increase and I think he started enjoying it more. He has doubled his score from the first meet to the meet last night. So proud of what he has accomplished this season.

The boys finish with a dual meet record of 9 wins and 1 loss. It has been a great season. We have a few more goals to accomplish as we focus on sectional. Best times and getting as many in the top 16 places as possible.

Two Golden Goggles were given out tonight to Kathryn Rodkey and Abby Jordan. Kathryn has been a solid on the team and one we can always look to for anything if needed. The girl can swim and dive which makes it very nice if she needs to fill in for a swimmer! She has improved a lot on her diving this season after not diving for the last two years. I am very proud of her and how hard she has worked this season. Abby Jordan is also very solid and can always be counted on to earn her points for the meets. She had two best times tonight and it shows, she is always giving full effort. She is also a very hard worker in practice and the younger girls look up to her, she is quite the leader in her junior role!
