Manchester Girls Swimmers Advancing To Sectional Finals

The Squires were on fire on Thursday night swimming their way into Saturday’s sectional finals in several events and posting numerous season and lifetime best times.

The evening started with a bang as Rachel Garcia, Hannah Eberly, Josie Briner, and Noelle Walt took down the school record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:00.12. The previous record of 2:01.15 was set in 1999 by Yoder, Timoteo, Rinearson, and Gilbert. The team has the third best time going into Saturday’s final.

In the 200 freestyle, Elena Lawrence cut over 5 seconds off her lifetime best to advance to the consolation finals with a time of 2:23.08. Evyn Fox knocked over 9 seconds off her lifetime best to finish 17th with a time of 2:26.18.

Josie Briner swam a season best 2:16.60 to advance as the top seed in the 200 IM. Miriam Struble-Hedstrom swam a lifetime best 3:02.09, just short of a spot in the consolation finals in 18th place.

Rachel Garcia advanced to the finals in the 50 freestyle with the 2nd fasted time in prelims, swimming a season best 25.66. Hannah Eberly swam a lifetime best 27.98 to grab a spot in the consolation finals with the 14th fastest time.

Briner was a tenth of a second off of the school record in the 100 butterfly, swimming a lifetime best 58.76 and earning the top seed for the finals. Miriam Struble-Hedstrom just missed a spot in the consolation finals, finishing 17th in 1:26.08.

In the 100 freestyle, Rachel Garcia advanced to the finals, posting the top time in prelims with a season best 56.38. Sophie Anglin posted a lifetime best 1:08.54 to finish 21st.

Evyn Fox added to her strong night with a great swim in the 500 freestyle. Her time of 6:34.73 was a 15 second improvement over her previous lifetime best and was enough to put her through to the consolation finals with the 13th fastest prelim time.

The school record holding 200 freestyle relay team of Hannah Eberly, Rachel Garcia, Noelle Walt, and Josie Briner posted a 1:46.60, lowering their record by 3 seconds to advance to the finals with the 3rd fastest prelim time.

In the 100 backstroke, Elena Lawrence swam a lifetime best 1:13.29 to advance to the finals with the 8th fastest time.

Hanna Eberly advanced to the finals of the 100 breaststroke with a lifetime best 1:16.43 putting her in 6th place.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Sophie Anglin, Evyn Fox, Noelle Walt, and Elena Lawrence advanced to the finals with the 6th fastest time, posting a 4:32.01.

The sectional finals will begin a 1PM on Saturday at Warsaw.
