Knights Come Back To Defeat Northwestern

The Southwood boys basketball team came back from a double digit deficit to defeat Northwestern 69-53 Saturday afternoon.

It was a game of runs for the Knights after the first quarter deficit of 25-17 at home vs. the Northwestern Tigers. Down 10 points in the second quarter, Nathan Lehner went on an 8-0 run, hitting two threes and a backcut lay up fed by Jason Oprisek. The Knights found themselves down only one at the half 38-37.

The Knights second run came early in the third after the Tigers scored the first basket with a 13-3 run to take the lead into the fourth quarter 50-43. The Knights held the Tigers to five points in the quarter.

The Knights finished the game with their third run of 13-2 to put away the Northwestern Tigers 69-53. It was the third straight win for the Knights to bring their record to 7-9 (4-3 TRC).

Southwood forced Northwestern into 28 turnovers leading to 31 points for the Knights. The Knights had 17 steals, lead by Jason Oprisek with career high 10.

Southwood travels to Maconaquah next Friday for a conference match up vs. the Maconaquah Braves, who are coached by John Burrus.

Southwood High School Boys Junior Varsity Basketball falls to Northwestern High School 50-39

The JV boys struggled with consistency in their offense. 16 Turnovers led to multiple easy baskets for the Tigers. The Knights shot 43% from the filed, but couldn’t overcome the points scored from Turnovers.
