Track Teams Get Started Indoors
Wabash County track teams ran in indoor state qualifiers Friday and Saturday.
The Manchester Squuire Track team is off to a great start with a fine showing at the New Haven Relays, a qualifier for the Hoosier State Relay Finals.
For the girls:
Kadence Foz dominated the 3200 m run with a time of 11:46.57 and picked up a sweet first place finish.
7th place finishers were Leyna Borgmann in the shot put with a toss of 30’1/2 “
and the girls DMR team of Ava Egolf, Peyton Ream, Evyn Fox, and Kadence Fox with a 14:19.
The 4×200 team of Aliala Atienza, Ream, Taryn Finch, and Olivia Davis placed 8th with a 1:59.7
Freshman Peyton Ream also placed 10th in her first Varsity hurdle race with 10.55, team mate Atienza ran a 11:33 after catching a couple of flying elbows.
The 4×800 team of Egolf, Hannah Eberly, Lauryn Reichenbach, and Ella Clifford placed 13th at 11:35.
And both Davis and Finch jumped matching 4’6’s to tie at 19th. The 4’6 is a PR for Finch.
For the guys:
Kolby Haecker placed second in the high jump with a 6’0 leap. Freshman team mate Carson Heath added an 8th with a jump of 5’6.
Heath also ran his first varsity hurdle race placing 10th with a time of 9.97.
Zavier Sell threw a huge 4′ PR in the shot placing 22nd with a. 35’10 1/2″ toss.
The DMR team of Raven King, Kyler Dale, Eli Metzger, and Clark Showalter picked up a 12th place and set a NEW INDOOR MEET RECORD time of 12:06.
The 4×200 team of Wyatt Young, Metzger, Heath, and Simon Van ran a 1:47 to get 18th place. Young also ran the 60 m in 8:15.
3200 m runners Caden Marcum and Caleb Smith scored in 27th and 29th place, both starting the season with times of 12:04 and 12:34.

A select number of Wabash boys competed in the Hoosier State Relay qualifier meet Saturday at IWU.
Coleson Kugler finished 22nd in the 60 dash while Troy Guenin-Hodson finished 33rd.
The 4×800 relay of Chase Howard, Jace Bullins, Kasen Oswalt, and Bobby Shull finsihed 14th
The 4×200 relay of Coleson Kugler, Max Carpenter, Kristian Stanton, and Drew Guenin-Hodson finished 17th
The Distance Medley Relay of Isaiah Cordes, Chase Howard, Drew Guenin-Hodson, and Jonas Church finished 7th

The Lady Apaches track team competed in the Hoosier State Relays Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University with some really good performances by the girls. Natalie Adams in the high jump, Kierra Wilson & Abbie Boggs in the 60 hurdles and Irma Robles in the 60 dash all bettered their last season’s indoor performances. Kiara Carmichael was just a little off her best in the shot put. Our relays featured several new team members who all competed well.

Four Lady Knights competed in the Hoosier State Relay Qualifier #2 held at Indiana Wesleyan.
In the 4 X 800m Relay, Hailey Collins, Aleia Sweet, Jaiya Corn, and Bryn Mealy won their heat by a significant margin with a time of 11:09.97, placing 6th overall in a field of 18 teams.

In the DMR (Distance Medley Relay), the Lady Knights were edged out at the line, finishing 2nd in their heat and 10th overall in a field of 18 teams.
Sweet led off covering the 1st 1200m in 4:20 followed by Collins racing a 400m in 1:15. From Collins, Corn took the baton to cover the next 800m in 3:07. Mealy anchored the final 1600m leg for the team in a time of 6:13.

Southwood boys varsity track was represented at the indoor Hoosier State Relays on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University. Competing for the Knights were Zeb Herring, Devin Danzy, Casey Boardman, Landon Mitchell, Luke Andrews, Weston Greiner, Owen Enyeart, and Cooper Drake.
Danzy hurdled to a 10.46 finish in the 60m Hurdles, placing 17th in a field of 29 runners.
Greiner grined out a 7.9 60, placing 49th in a field of 63.
In the first relay of the day, Drake, Enyeart, Mitchell, and Danzy finished 15th with a time of 9:34.6 in the 4 x 800m relay.
In the 4 x 200m relay, Greiner, Herring, Drake, and Boardman finished 21st in a time of 1:45.52 after experiencing a slight mishap with the baton in the exchange zone.
In the DMR (Distance Medley Relay), Andrews led off with the 1200m, followed by Herring in the 400m. Herring handed off to Boardman who legged out an 800m to pass the baton to Mitchell who grinded out the last 1600m of the DMR. The Knights finished 13th in a field of 21 teams, covering the full distance in a time of 12:35.93.
After the rigor of the back to back races, Herring and Boardman were once again joined by Enyeart and Greiner to finish out the day in the 4 x 400m relay. The team pulled out a 10th place finish in a field of 22 teams, putting down a 3:53.07 to bring the day to close.
