Knights Capture Fourth Straight Sectional

The Southwood Knights came into the Sectional Championship game looking to defend their 3-Peat and did just that.

Hosting the Boys Sectional for the first time made a nice home atmosphere for the boys varsity team.

Fort Wayne Canterbury came into the Castle and Sectional #53 for the first time this week. Canterbury defeated Southern Wells and Smith Academy to put themselves into the championship game facing the Knights.

The Knights, once again, got off to a hot start, leading after the first quarter 20-10. During the second quarter, the Cavaliers were able to cut the lead in half to find the Knights leading 36-31 at the break.

The third quarter saw the Knights extend their lead to 53-45 going into the final quarter. Southwood was able to get their lead to 16 before the Cavaliers cut it back to single digits midway through the fourth. The Knights hits a strong 8/9 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off any rally that Canterbury may have tried. Southwood boys held on for a 70-57 Sectional Championship score to claim their fourth consecutive sectional championship!

The Knights connected on a blistering 20/23 free throws. Also forced 17 turnovers that lead to 18 points for Southwood.

“I’m just very happy and proud of this team and these seniors. For them to win four sectionals in a row, what a great accomplishment. There isn’t many people that can say they have never lost a sectional game!” Coach Perry

The Knights will play the 20-6 Blue River Valley Vikings Saturday at 7Pm when they visit Case Arena at Frankfort HS.
