Knights Ride Huge Third Quarter To Regional Title
The Southwood Knights rode a 22-8 third quarter in route to a regional championship, defeating Blue River Valley 57-38 Saturday in Frankfort.
The Knights got off to a hot start, getting two free throws and a bucket from Nathan Lehner followed by a three point play from Will Winer to lead 7-0. Blue River would make it 7-6 on back to back three’s before Jaret Denney made it 8-6. Blue River would out score the Knights 8-5 the remainder of the quarter and led 14-13 after one.
Dylan Stout and Jason Oprisek would hit free throws to start the second quarter and give Southwood a 15-14 lead. Again Blue River would hit twi straight long balls to grab a 19-15 lead and led 21-17 when Cole Winer hit two free throws and followed with a bucket to tie the game at 21. Blue River would then hit their sixth three of the game to take a 24-21 lead to the locker room.
It was all Knights in the third. Southwood turned up the defensive pressure to out score Blue River 22-8 in the quarter. Oprisek and Stout would do most of the scoring with Lehner chiming in. The Knights led 43-32 after three.
Southwood would all but put the game away to start the fourth, getting two free throws from Will Winer and a three point play from Lehner to lead 48-32. Blue River would cut the Knights lead to 48-37 before the Knights hit seven free throws down the stretch for the 57-38 win.
