Manchester tennis mounted a comeback on the road against a solid Huntington North team for another big victory to improve to 9-1 on the season. Each team won a two setter with freshman Bethany Penrod earning Manchester’s first point with a 6-3, 6-1 score. Penrod again showed her intelligence on the court by figuring out a winning strategy as she turned a 2-3 deficit into total control winning the 10 of the final 11 games played. With Hailey Krom in Oklahoma for an FFA national contest, Kate Schroll stepped in with Addison Brubaker but the duo lost 2-6,3-6. The one doubles team of Delani Henderson and Carleigh Blevins started strong taking set one 6-3 but struggled to finish, losing the next two sets. Down 1-2, freshman Myla Crozier had her hands full after losing the opening set 1-6. Crozier once again played determined tennis as she altered her approach and easily won the second set 6-1 and the decisive set 6-2. With the match tied 2-2, captain Sarah Kerlin pulled out her match of the year! Both of the first two sets saw each player leading and then trailing. Kerlin fell short in set one 4-6, but flipped set two from 1-2 to 5-2 and then traded games for a 6-3 split of sets. The final set stretched to nearly the 3 hour mark as Sarah managed a one game lead or tie until 5-5. She then broke her opponent’s serve to lead 6-5 and next held her own serve for a 7-5 third set count and Manchester’s team victory 3-2!!! Coach Nikki Briner was thoroughly impressed and enjoyed watching the singles players battle to get the wins. “You just need to win 3 out of 5 positions, and all of our players are capable of contributing to our team’s success. Typically we dominate in doubles, but tonight our singles sweep was the difference,” remarked Coach Eichenauer.

Manchester JV fell 4-6 to Huntington North for just their second loss of the season. The team is now 10-2 and got wins from the doubles teams of Alexa Weaver & Marley Bellinger, Carrie Hoffmeyer & Maggie Onderko-White, Isabelle Anguilm & Audrey Sanson, and also Lilli Meyer & MaKayla Marcum. Manchester faces Bluffton at home on Thursday and then hosts Whitko on Friday in a weather make-up match, both at 5pm.
