What a night for Manchester tennis! Manchester started solid and finished stronger. Manchester’s first point came when captains Delani Henderson and Carleigh Blevins won their 13th match of the season together as they once again led the team to their first victory of the night. “These talented athletes play with confidence and strategy. They have great serves and can beat teams many different ways. Delani & Carleigh really set the tone for the team,” Coach Eichenauer remarked. The next Manchester win came from Bethany Penrod at 3 singles. The talented singles player controlled the points throughout the match and made adjustments to counter her opponents strengths. Coach Eichenauer commented, “Bethany is a quick learner and a really smart player She just finds ways to win. It’s fun to watch her glide across the court and play instinctively,” The third team point came when the two doubles duo of Addison Brubaker and sophomore Ella Bradley as they got hot to close out their match by taking the final 8 games to win 6-3,6-0. “Addison covers the court so well and pulls off amazingly athletic shots. Her strokes pack a lot of punch yet she plays consistently at the right times. And tonight with Hailey Krom in Oklahoma at a national soil judging tournament and Kate Schroll nursing a sore arm, Ella Bradley stepped in brilliantly. Ella has worked hard every day and tonight showed off her shot making and excellent play.” Point 4 came from Myla Crozier who remained undefeated on the season at 15-0. Crozier continued to win the big points and close out sets showing her star talent in many ways to win 6-2,6-2. “This match took awhile as Myla needed to earn every point against a consistent player. I really liked the way she has improved her all around style of play to handle different types of opponents. This speaks to her work ethic and drive to get better every day.” The final point came from a 2 hour battle at one singles where Sarah Kerlin lost set one 1-6. After some rethinking of strategy and a focus on minimizing unforced errors, Kerlin began to get into her groove with well placed groundstrokes and timely serves. In set two Kerlin went from 2-1 to 4-2. After losing a game for a 4-3 lead, the final two games were Sarah’s to win 6-3. Kerlin would not look back taking six straight and set three 6-0 in impressive fashion. “Sarah was determined tonight against a really good opponent. She made in match adjustments to improve her play and focused on some key things to turn the momentum her way. We were all impressed by her play!” Manchester varsity improves to 11-1 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in conference with one week remaining.

In JV play Manchester swept the singles with Katie Jenkins confidently winning 8-2, Chase Blevins powering her way to an identical 8-2 score, and Maggie Onderko-White dazzling with her 8-0 win. The lone double match was taken by Alexa Weaver and Lexi Nichols 8-2 with great net play by Weaver and super hustle by Nichols. The JV record is now an incredible 12-2 and 5-0 in TRC play. Manchester faces Tippecanoe Valley at home Monday, Southwood again home on Tuesday, and a championship determining showdown with Peru on Wednesday in North Manchester.
