Maconaquah Braves Varsity lost the lead late in a 9-6 defeat to Southwood on Monday.

Maconaquah Braves Varsity collected ten hits and Southwood had nine in the high-scoring affair.

Maconaquah Braves Varsity put up five runs in the fourth inning. Maconaquah Braves Varsity batters contributing to the big inning included MJ Ellis, Klaytin Kile, and Kaleb Shelton, who all drove in runs.

Shelton was on the hill for Maconaquah Braves Varsity. The righthander went four and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits and striking out seven. Bennett Isenburg threw one and one-third innings in relief.

Kile, Shelton, and Jackson Collins each racked up multiple hits for Maconaquah Braves Varsity. Collins, Shelton, and Kile all had two hits to lead Maconaquah Braves Varsity.

Bennett Isenburg, Trace Armstrong, Brandson Smitley, and MJ Ellis also had hits for the Braves.

Maconaquah Softball falls to Southwood

Maconaquah (7-12) falls to Southwood (10-4) on the road Monday night.

The Braves did not score until the 6th inning, when Bailey Carson leads off with a single, Freshman Kaitlynn Bunch singles, Senior Madi Wibel 2 RBI single scoring 2.

Bailey Carson pitched 6 innings taking the loss. 9 hits, 1 earned run, 2 stikeouts, 3 walks.

Coach Remarks…”I was too aggressive in the top of the 1st. We should have got a run there, thats on me as a coach. However the box score says it all. Too many errors! Credit to Southwood, they put the ball in play. We just did not make plays, run down pop ups, infield tags, etc. We are in week 12 of 13. We have lost our last 6 games. We have a couple injuries to starters. The season is testing us, it is hard right now. We have a good group of young ladies. We will keep playing, keep learning, keep grinding.”

Braves travel Tuesday to Tippy Valley 530 start, host Peru on Wednesday for Senior Night 530 start, and host Eastbrook Saturday for a double header 1100 am start.

Maconaquah falls to Elwood Friday Night

Maconaquah (7-11) falls to Elwood (14-8) Friday in an away game.

Mac starts the top of the first going down 1,2,3. Elwood in the bottom of the 1st scores 1 run on 2 hits and a walk. The Braves did pull off a 1-3-2 (Carson, Wibel, Rader) double play to slow down the Panther’s small ball offense.

Freshman Shaella Brazzel starts off the top of the first with a solo Home Run to tie the game at 1 to 1. The Braves hold the Panthers in the bottom of 2.

Top of the 3rd the Braves take a 3 to 1 lead on Bailey Carson’s RBI single to center scoring Blayklee Buman and Anna Clifton.

Elwood scratches back in the bottom of the 3rd scoring one run on one hit, 1 error, and 2 walks.

Mac leaves one on base in the top of the 4th, but Elwood ties the game with two singles. At the end of 4 innings 3 to 3.

Haylee Scarlett singles to lead off the 5th, but the Braves cannot get her in to score. Elwood scores one more the bottom of the 5th on 3 hits, 1 error. 4 to 3 after 5 innings.

The Braves have 3 strikeouts in the top of the 6th. Elwood opens the game up in the bottom of the inning scoring 6 runs on 3 hits, 3 Mac errors, 2 walks. 10-3 Panthers lead after 6.

The Braves ralley in the top of the 7th, scoring 2 Runs on another Shaella Brazzel 2 run bomb over the fence. Her second of the game.

Final score Elwood 10, Braves 5.

Coach’s Remarks…”We had a good team on the ropes early, but we gave up a big inning late. Elwood had a great small ball offense that picked us apart. Freshman Scarlett and Brazzel had great games for us at the plate and in the field. I love their intensity and competitiveness. The future is bright for these young ladies”
