Squires Split Double Header With Central Noble
The Manchester Squires baseball team hosted the Central Noble Cougars for a double header on Saturday. The team won game one 10-9 and lost game two 7-0.
In game one, the Squires had yet another extra inning game. The Cougars scored 3 in the top half of the 8th inning to go up 9-6. The Squires had the top of their lineup coming up in the bottom of the 8th. Ethan Hendrix set the table, like he has all season, with a single. The Cougars then intentionally walked power hitting Garrett Sites. Gavin Martin came to the plate and worked the count for a walk to load the bases. Freshman Reiss Gaerte hit a single into left field to drive two runs in. The score was 9-8 with Evan Martynowicz walking up to the plate. Martin and Gaerte advanced on a passed ball putting the winning run in scoring position. Marty singled to center on a 2-1 count to drive in 2 runs for the walkoff win.
In game two, the Squires never could get going or match the energy from game one. The team lost 7-0. Garrett Sites was the only player to get a hit. He also had one stolen base.
