Squires Win Marathon At Wayne
The Manchester Squires concluded their regular season on Tuesday night on the road. The Squires traveled to Ft. Wayne and defeated the Wayne Generals 18-13.
The team jumped out to a 9-1 lead but the Generals responded with 4 in the bottom of the 3rd. The game remained 9-5 until the top of the 5th when the Squires pushed a 10th run across the plate. In the bottom of the 5th, the Generals scored 8 runs to take the lead 13-10. The Squires were able to fight through the adversity and go on to score 8 more runs over the final two frames. The Squires finished with 17 hits on the night. 9 of the hits were extra base hits, including 7 doubles, 2 triples, and a homerun by Gavin Martin. The win improves the Squires record to 12-14. Although the team finishes with a losing record, the regular season was definitely a success. The Squires doubled their win total from last season, swept the county, and finished with 118 stolen bases with an 89.39% success rate. The team opens up Sectional play Saturday against Rochester.
