Braves Boys Varsity Soccer Defeats Blackford 6-1, Improve to 7-1

The Maconaquah Boys Soccer team played in the last home game (before Senior night) against Blackford and came away with an impressive win. Blackford came into the game 3-3 on the season and hadn’t faced the Braves in several years.

The Mac team used very good control to possess the ball well in the defensive and middle thirds of the field and got consistent opportunities on thru balls as the Blackford defense held their defensive lines at mid-field. After several runs and several offsides calls, the Braves attack paid off 25 mins into the match when Alex Hicks played a fantastic thru ball past the Bruins defensive line and Isaac Lorenz scored the first of his 3 goals on the night, out-sprinting the defense and beating the goalie. The 2nd goal came from a similar run, but this time it was Lorenz passing to Bennett Isenburg for the goal. This score held until halftime. In the 2nd half the Braves attack wore down the Bruin defenders and resulted in a Kevin Nord Penalty Kick, Isaac Lorenz scoring his other two goals from assists by Isenburg, and Isenburg himself smashing home a putback goal that was bouncing off multiple defenders.

On the season, the team has scored 37 goals and allowed 4. This win improves the record to 7-1 and 2-0 in TRC conference play. The last home game will be on Tuesday 9/12 against Tri-Central and will be senior night. We will be honoring our 6 seniors this night and would love to have a large crowd cheering them on.

Lady Braves win three-way match at Round Barn

The Lady Braves prepared for the Three Rivers Conference Golf Championship by shooting an impressive 175 at Round Barn Golf Course in Rochester, Indiana. Leading the Braves and Match Medalist was Junior Daisy Williams who carded an 2 over par 38. Daisy birdied the challening 10th hole as she sunk a tricky putt from the upper tier to the hole on the lower tier. She followed that up with a birdie on the long par five 12th hole. Second on the team and in the match was Senior Mirnada Stoll. Her 40 was very even scoring as she only had one 6 on the scorecard. Ever the hard worker, Miranda was putting on the practice green shortly after she finished playing. Third on the Braves and third overall was Freshman Aubrey Stoll. Aubrey’s ball striking improves each week and when putts begin to fall for her, she is going to break 40 (or 90 for 18 holes) before the season ends. Haley Washburn had trouble off the tee, but made up for it on the greens as she finished with a 52. Junior Finley Dobbs struggled a bit on the tight lay out and ended the night with a 56. Senior Sydney Barnes continued her stellar play of late as she carded a 45. Sydney has always had power in her game, but has recently learned to swing with control as well. Kathryn Rodkey, Delaney Duke, Maya Wagner (who carded a career low 52) and Liv Apfel all played well in junior varsity play.

The Lady Braves won the three-way meet by shooting a 175. North Miami was second with 220 and host Tippecoane Valley was third with 232.

The Lady Braves are back in action Saturday September 9th as they defend their back to back conference championship at Round Barn.

As always the Lady Braves appreciate the support of all the parents, families, and friends that come out each match.
