Braves fight hard to win in 4 sets

Even with 11 service errors, the Braves fought hard to come away with a victory over Lewis Cass. The girls continue to grow in their mental toughness. The Braves celebrated senior night by honoring our girls. We have several foreign exchange students, a few managers, and Bailey, Brionna, Hallie, and Zoe to represent our senior class.

Maconaquah Boys Soccer Outlasts Peru in Penalty Kick Shootout to Win TRC Championship Outright

In a wet, cloudy, muddy, messy game, the Maconaquah Boys Soccer team closed out the regular season with a win at Peru to clinch an outright TRC championship. This is the third TRC championship that the team has won in the last 4 years, but Peru really made the Braves work for it.

Peru started the game with alot of energy and physicality and matched the Braves really well. The Tigers took the lead in the middle of the first half when the Braves miss played a ball from the keeper and a Peru forward put a high long shot over the Mac goalie. This seemed to fire up the Braves who responded when Isaac Lorenz passed to Bennett Isenburg who beat the Peru goalie for the score.

The 2nd half was very rough with 3 Maconaquah players leaving the field injured and tempers raised. The half seemed to be going well for the Braves but the Peru goalie played a fantastic game and came up with save after save. As the 2nd half came to a close and light fading, the game went to overtime, which is two, seven minute periods. Neither team was able to score, which then led to Penalty Kick Shoot-Out.

Peru took the first PK shot, but deflected it high off the top cross bar. Isaac Lorenz perfectly placed his shot for Maconaquah in the upper right corner. The 2nd Peru Player missed wide right and Bennett Isenburg put his shot in the exact same place as Lorenz. The third Peru player missed high and Kevin Nord followed Lorenz and Isenburg in nearly the same spot for the game sealing win.

As the regular season comes to an end, the Braves finished with a 14-2 reguar season record and as TRC champs. The team scored 63 goals and allowed only 7. In the 4 years the seniors have played for Maconaquah, they have a combined record of 42-10 in the regular season and three TRC championships. This class has performed wonderfully for their school and should be very proud of all their accomplishments.

The Braves open secional play on Tuesday 10/3/23 at Oak Hill. The team will be facing Western at 5 pm in the first round of sectional action.
