VolleyKnights Take Three Straight From Manchester

The Southwood Lady Knights volleyball team defeated Manchester 25-14, 25-16, 25-14 Thursday.

Trailing 3-1 in the first set Shania Rhamy and Grace Drake would record kills that gave the lady Knights a 5-3 lead. The Knights would continue to find Rhamy as the lead grew to 16-6. Quinn Claussen and Carley Whitesel would chime in as Southwood led 22-8 before Manchester rallied late. Southwood won the first set 25-14.

Tied 8-8 in the second set the Squires would get a kill from Gracie Lauer and two aces from Hadley West to grab a 12-8 lead. The Knights would answer with an 11-1 run to grab the lead 19-13. Rhamy had three kills during the run with Hali Pershing serving an ace. Southwood went on to take the second set 25-16.

Claussen and Whitesel would control the net to start the third set and grab a 10-6 lead. Ava Felgar would keep the squires close with a block and a kill. At 17-13 Rhamy and Grace Drake took over as the Knights scored seven straight en route to the 25-14 win.

Quinn Claussen: 3 Kills, 2 Blocks, 3 Digs

Adi Deaton: 11 Assists, 2 Digs

Hali Pershing: 11 Service Points, 1 Ace, 2 Kills, 1 Block, 1 Dig

Giulia Colombini: 3 Digs

Alexis Lopez: 4 Service Points, 5 Kills, 1 Assist, 2 Digs

The Squires backrow was scrappy during the match. Paxton Baker led the team with 11 digs, followed by Myla Crozier with 10, Marley Bellinger with 7, and Peyton Ream with 6.

At the net, Ava Felgar had another nice night with 3 kills on just 6 swings to go along with 4 total blocks. McKelvey Espeset had 4 kills, Myla Crozier had 3 kills, and Izzy Renz at 2.

To wrap up the regular season next week, the Squires finish conference play at Wabash on Tuesday night before hosting Fort Wayne Blackhawk for our senior night on Thursday. The varsity then travels to Clinton Prairie on Saturday for their final preparation matches before sectionals the following week.
