Northfield Captures RRC Cross Country Titles

The Northfield junior high cross country teams won the boys and girls RRC races Saturday at Manchester.

The Lady Norse Middle School Cross Country team came out in dominant fashion to earn their 2nd straight Conference championship Saturday hosted by Manchester. Kaleigh Rice also earned her 2nd straight Individual Conference championship. Leading from start-to-finish, Rice would lead the Norse as they took 5 of the top 11 places in the race. Addi Hawkens, 5th, Teagan Baer, 9th, Ali Copeland, 10th, Andrea Widemon, 11th, Izzy See, 39th, Haylee Bucher, 41st, and Sheila Smith, 45th.

The Lady Norse finish the season 8-1. Each of these girls has put in a ton of work and have been very focused getting better each week. Turning in lifetime best performances was Hawkens, Widemon and See.

The Northfield Boys Middle School Cross Country team focused in on the task at hand and did exactly what they needed to do to win the RRC Championship hosted by Manchester on Saturday morning. Each of the boys needed to move at least 1 place ahead of Maconaquah runners based on the last time they ran against them and lost. The boys came through and did exactly that. The boys were led by individual champion, Bode Sorg. Bode ran a very smart race and made his move to take the lead with about 300 meters left and won in a time of 10:38. Also earning All Conference honors was Preston Moore, 5th, Nate Hodson, 7th and Hudson Haupert, 8th. Also contributing to the win and finishing was Maesyn Jones, 24th, Gavin Lester, 35th and Bentley Sutterby, 45th. Hodson, Haupert and Jones all turned in lifetime best performances.

The Wabash Middle School Boys Cross Country Team finished 4th at the Running Rivers Conference Meet Saturday with a score of 82. Kamden Oswalt ran the best time of his life – 10:42 to come in 2nd overall. The pack of 6th grader Kedryn Evenson (12:21), 7th grader Beckett Shaw (12:27), and 7th grader Landen Fisher (12:30) also ran lifetime bests finishing 15th, 17th, and 18th respectively. 7th grader Kalib Mabery (13:29) smashed his personal best time finishing in 13:29. 6th grader Jaydenn Mertz (14:22) also ran his lifetime best coming in 45th. Demetri Shull came in 57th and Mason Tart 62nd.

On this last, foggy day of September, the middle school boys ran their last race of the season. Zander Chellis placed eighth in a career best time of 11:26.52. Riley Sutphin finished 38th in a time of 13:52.98.

On this last, foggy day of September, the middle school girls ran their last race of the season. Paige Nelson finished sixth in a time of 12:32.48. Ava Stouffer placed fourteenth in a career best time of 13:27.16. Ellie Simpson came in 40th in a career best time of 15:59.62.
