Braves crush Wabash, 62-0, in Junior Varsity contest

The Maconaquah Braves junior varsity scored on all nine possessions Monday evening and cruised past the Wabash Apaches, 62-0.

After forcing a Wabash punt, the two freshmen teamed up again for Mac's second touchdown when Robinson hit Sims with a nine-yard scoring strike, 12-0. An interception and Apache fumble set up Maconaquah's first two scores.

The Braves blitzed Wabash with a big 30-point second quarter and the remainder of the game with played with a running clock under the IHSAA "mercy rule".

Sims opened the period with a 47-yard TD run at the 7:26 mark and Robinson pushed the lead to 26-0 with a one-yard TD midway through the quarter. The duo teamed up on the conversion pass for a 26-0 lead.

Mac's lead ballooned to 34-0 with 4:05 showing when Robinson scampered in from the nine. He connected with Connor Eldridge on the conversion attempt. Taking over at the Wabash 38 with 1:58 left, runs by Sims and Eldridge moved the ball to the 18. After a pass to Jordan Van Ness moved it to the 10, the Braves stretched their lead to 42-0 when Gabe Jenkins was on the receiving end (10 yards) of another Robinson TD pass.

The second half started out with some fireworks when Eldridge returned the opening kick 77 yards for an apparent TD that was negated by a penalty. The Braves then put together a five-play, 63-yard drive and used 7:24 of clock before Robinson's fourth TD pass (10 yards) was hauled in by Eldridge. A 33-yard burst by Sims and a five-yard carry by Evan Blake set up the score, 48-0.

MHS stretched its lead to 56-0 with 7:26 left in the game when Aiden Ousley caught a 31-yard TD pass from Robinson on a third-and-14 play. A nice 34-yard touchdown run by Kaiden Worden with 1:25 remaining closed out the scoring and provided the final count, 62-0.

Maconaquah's defense allowed the Apaches to cross midfield only twice during the game. Their deepest penetraction into Brave territory came on their opening possession when they reached Mac's 31-yard line before coming up short on a fourth down try. The Braves limited Wabash to 71 yards total offense. Mac finished with 364.

Robinson fueled the Braves offense as he accounted for seven of Mac's touchdowns (5 passing - 2 running). He finished with 215 yards, completing 11 of 17 passes.

Sims was his favorite target, nabbing 3 passes for 95 yards and a pair of TD's. Eldridge (2-43, 1 TD), Van Ness (4-36), Ousley (1-31, 1 TD) and Jenkins (1-10, 1 TD) added to Mac's final receiving totals. Sims led all rushers with 93 yards on just three carries.
