Manchester Girls Swimmers Top Pioneer
The Manchester girls swim team continued its strong start to the season by defeating Pioneer 96-76 on Tuesday night in Royal Center.
The Squires were paced by Rachel Garica, Joanna Eberly, and Hannah Eberly, who each won four events. Individually Garcia took first in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. Joanna Eberly was first in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Hannah Eberly won he 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. The Squires also took first in all three relays. The Eberly sisters joined Elena Lawrence and Sophie Anglin to win the 200 medley relay and they teamed with Garcia and Laynen DeLaughter to win the 200 freestyle relay. Lawrence, Garcia and Anglin teamed with Evyn Fox to capture first in the 400 freestyle relay. Elena Lawrence picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Evyn Fox swam well, picking up 3rd place in the 200 freestyle and second place in the 500 freestyle. Sophie Anglin also did a great job picking up 4th in the 50 freestyle and 3rd in the 500 freestyle. The girls continue their busy week on Thursday when they’ll travel to Maconaquah to take on the Braves.
The boys swimming team fell to Pioneer 75-62. Cale Bennett paced the Squires with three first place finishes while Cam Peacock picked up two. Bennett was victorious in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and Peacock won the 500 freestyle. Bennett and Peacock teamed with Gabe Selleck and Caleb Struble-Hedstrom to win the 400 freestyle relay. Picking up 2nd place finishes were Struble-Hedstrom in the 200 IM, Luca Jelen in the 100 freestyle, and Peacock in the 100 breaststroke. Also finishing 2nd was the 200 medley relay team of Jet Thomas, Peacock, Bennett, and Jelen, as well as the 200 freestyle relay team of Thomas, Selleck, Struble-Hedstrom, and Jelen.
