NM Starts TRC vs Mac

The first TRC matchup for the boys basketball team isn’t an easy one and the team is a little bit bitter about it. Facing the Maconaquah Braves, coached by former NM coach John Burrus, the boys are looking to avenge the two losses they suffered from Mac last season. Hoping to prove something to the TRC and to themselves, the Warriors are looking to get off to a good start and stay strong for all 32 minutes of play.

The Warriors knew Mac was going to press all game, but they didn’t realilze how intense this press is in person. The boys got in a hurry once the press was broken and either took quick shots or turned the ball over in the backcourt. Mac quickly got off to a 29-9 lead after the first quarter and refused to look back after that. The Braves doubled their score in the second and left the Warriors in the dust for the entire second half. North Miami picked up their efforts much better in the second half, but it was too late to mount a comeback. The first TRC game ends 79-37 in favor of the Braves and not what the boys hoped for.

A tough loss like this puts the Warriors down to a 1-2 record with a pile of games to play in December, especially with the Holdiay Tournament at the end. A lot of adjustments are going to have to be made if the Warriors want to get on the right track and get a streak going. They have two games next week and both are viewed as wins in the team’s eyes. Hosting Culver Community on Wednesday is the start of their new path and preparing for their next biggest task. JV will start at 6 and varsity will follow hoping to bounce back.

Warriors Fall in Home Opener

The North Miami Warriors boys basketball team has been waiting 9 months to step on their home court and play a game. The wait is over, the teams are ready to compete, and the expectations are high. Taking on the Taylor Titans, North Miami is looking for revenge after last year’s loss to the team. The boys are also looking to build on from last Tuesday’s win against North White and begin a winning streak. Taylor is coming off of a near 30 point loss to Maconaquah so the Warriors are looking to capitalize.

Taylor was the team to get off to a hot start this time, putting the Warriors down early and looking to shut them down quicker than many may have thought. Down 10 after the first quarter, the Warriors knew they had their work cut out for them and were going to have to battle the remaining 24 minutes. They did just that in the second by tying Taylor’s quarter score to keep it a 10 point game at the half. To start the second half, Taylor repeated what they did in the first and got off to a hot start. But the Warriors wouldn’t go away and kept it at an 11 point game after 3. The competition was getting intense and the Warriors were having a hard time finding the answers on the court. Taylor stayed steady the whole quarter, leading to a Titans 57-41 victory.

This loss looks to put the Warriors down, but they are going to stay focused. The team knows that losses are a part of the game, and they will grow and learn from the mistakes that are made every day. As for now, they are sitting at a .500 record early in the year with big games coming up. This coming Friday, their first TRC matchup takes place at Maconaquah witht the Braves. This game means a little more, since the Warriors lost twice to the Braves last year and are looking for some payback. JV tipoff will start at 6, with the Varsity ready to follow right after for the first TRC action of the year.

Boys Basketball Wins Season Opener

The North Miami Warriors boys basketball season got kicked off with a great start on Tuesday November 21. Traveling to North White High School, the Warriors were looking to start their new season exactly how they did last year. The Warriors are also hoping for a better outcome to the entire season after a 1-win season. The team is focused and has a good feeling coming into North White for the season opener.

The boys got off to a slow start shooting from the floor, but stayed solid defensively, tying the first quarter 12-12. The next 8 minutes belonged to the Warriors on both sides, outscoring the Vikings 17-9 and leading by 8 going into hafltime. Both sides tied in the third quarter with 8 apiece, holding the Warrior’s lead to 8. Feeling confident, the Warriors came out striking hard in the fourth making sure they could put this game away quickly. Safe to say with efficient shooting and solid defense, North Miami outscored North White 17-7 to give the Warriors their first victory on the season, 54-36.

Having now matched last season’s win total, the Warriors are looking to continue building on and improving this winter. This younger team, similar to last year’s, is not satisfied with one win and they are going to continue to work toward their goals. The Warriors have a week off until their next game when they host Taylor High School for their home opener. JV tipoff is at 6 on November 28.
