Lady Norse Win MSD Battle Over Knights
The Northfield girls basketball team rode a strong second half to defeat MSD rival Southwood 47-43 Friday.
The Norse would jump out to a quick 7-0 lead to start the game on a bucket and two free throws from Ellie Baker. Eden Hoover and Callie Hoffman also hit free throws. The Knights started to claw their way back, dishing the ball inside to Emerson Chellis to make it 9-7. Two Baker free throws gave Northfield an 11-7 lead after one.
Lili Combs would draw the Knights closer to start the second quarter. The two teams would trade bckets for most of the quarter with Northfield leading 21-19 at the half.
Southwood would tie the score to start the third on a Hali Pershing bucket before the Norse would score seven straight. Baker and Hannah Holmes would score, followed by a bucket and a free throw from Camryn Kuhn to make it 28-21. Gracie Lambert would hit two long balls in the quarter to keep the Knights in srtiking distance but it was to much Baker as the Norse led 36-28 after three.
Holmes would make it 38-28 to start the fourth. With the Norse leading 42-30 the Knights would rally. Chellis would hit two free throws, followed by buckets from Lambert and Lola Winer to make it 42-37 before a Hoover bucket stopped the run. At 44-37 Winer and Lambert hit back to back three’s to make it 44-43 with just over a minute to play. One free throw each from Baker, Krom and Holmes sealed the 47-43 win for the Norse.

Southwood won the junior varsity contest 38-27
