Varsity Tigers beat Tippecanoe Valley 55-51 in OT

The #15 Tigers hosted the Vikings of Tippy Valley on Friday night. It turned out to be the second straight game they took to overtime this week.

It was a game that many high school fans would love to watch, with neither team leading by more than a couple of possessions. The first three quarters were a back-and-forth affair with great defense, with Tippy Valley forcing the Tigers to settle for jump shots instead of getting to the rim. When they did, it was a contested and tough shot. Senior Ian Potts scored his only points of the game on a big three-pointer at the buzzer to give the home team a four-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, the Vikings were able to knock in a few big buckets to claw back and tie the game forcing the Tigers into a second straight overtime affair. The Tigers’ defense was fairly stout all night long as well forcing 21 turnovers(unofficially). During the overtime session, Peru went 5-8 from the free throw line, along with a huge three-pointer by Senior Matthew Roettger to secure the win. Senior Alex Ross made several key plays throughout the game, whether it was a big rebound, a good bucket, a steal, or good help-side defense, he helped lead the team to victory.

The Tigers host TRC foe Lewis Cass tomorrow night with a JV tip at 6:15 and the Varsity around 7:45 pm.

Scoring

Matthew Roettger – 24

Alex Ross – 13

Xavier Turner – 9

Gavin Eldridge – 6

Ian Potts – 3
