Boys Varsity Basketball beats Whitko Jr/Sr 60 – 55

The Braves went on the road and won a tough TRC matchup against a big Whitko team. The win puts the Braves at 5-2 overall, and 2-1 in the TRC.

Coach Burrus Quotes: “This Whitko game was such a big game. The first half we knew could be a problem for us. The size of their two big kids was a problem. We were allowing them to play their slow, patient game. The two 3’s by Fuddy Kile were big to get the lead down to 8 before the half. We made some changes at halftime.

When we went into halftime we really challenged our kids to turn up the pressure. We needed to force some turnovers and we did. We were able to force several turnovers, tough shots, and got some steals(15, total). We held Whitko to 17 points in the 2nd half. These kids played a full-court defense the whole half and gave up 17 points to a really good team. MJ Ellis protected the basket so the other four could fly around. This was our best half of defense this season. The kids believed, came back, and won the game.

We also had to survive Josiah Ball being in foul trouble. We brought him back in with 4 fouls. He played well to keep pulling us closer then finally taking the lead. He fouled out with over two minutes left and we were up a couple so the rest of the team had to dig in. We took good care of the ball, and made enough free throws to win the game. AJ Kelly made some huge plays down the stretch. He ran clock but still took it at them.He has been playing very well. Fuddy was a constant in this one. He played hard the whole game! Ethan Zeiser had key deflections and steals. Kaden Miller was tough up front and helped get big stops. Oakley Reeser and Braxton Birner both came in and made good plays to help us win.

We are looking forward to a few days off and then preparing for the County.

We play Caston at 8pm on Wednesday, Dec 27th after Christmas.

Thanks for reading. Merry Christmas!”
