The junior varsity teams kicked off championship day at the Wabash County basketball tournament Saturday.
In the girls championship game Manchester hit a three at the buzzer and led Wabash 12-11 after one. In the second the Squires got 8 points from key ‘’reserves’’ to take a 24-13 lead at the half.
Manchester would keep control in the third, leading 31-19 with a quarter to go. Manchester would hold on for the first championship of the day, defeating Wabash 44-30.
Wabash, now 8-8 on the season, was led by Logan Wright with 13 points.

The Southwood and Wabash boys would square off for the boys junior varsity championship, tied 6-6 after the first quarter. The Knights would take control in the second quarter, out scoring Wabash 9-1 to lead 15-7 at the half.
The Knights would maintain their lead in the third, leading the Apaches 22-17 after three. The Knights would go on to win the title over the Apaches 28-21.

The Northfield and Southwood girls were the first consolation game of the afternoon. Southwood started the game on an 8-0 run with the Norse responding with 15 straight and led 17-10 after one quarter. The pace would slow a bit in the second with the Knights out scoring the Norse 10-9. Northfuield led at the half 26-20.
The Norse would increase their lead by a point in the third, leading 35-28 after three. The Lady Norse would take over in the fourth, defeating the Knights 55-34.

Up next was the boys consolation game between Northfield and Southwood. It was the start of a typical metro rival game with the Knights racing out to a lead and the Norse closing the gap. Southwood led 17-15 after one. The Knights rode their height advantage in the second, leading the Norse 37-23 at the half.
The Knights would continue heavy pressure along with taking advantage of their size and led 55-35 after three. The Knights were eventually too much for the Norse as they pulled away for a 69-46 win.

The first varsity championship game was the Wabash and Manchester girls. Manchester would own the first quarter, leading 12-3 after one stop. Down by as many as 12 the Lady Apaches would rally late in the second quarter and trail Manchester 22-17 at the half.
Wabash would come alive in the third, outscoring Manchester 14-4 to lead 31-26 after three. In a heated battle in the fourth the two teams would battle to a 40-40 tie and headed to OT. Wabash would control the overtime, winning 51-43.
Wabash, now 8-8 on the season, was led by Kait Honeycutt with 21 points while Kierra Wilson added 11. Honeycutt, Wilson and Bryleigh Boggs were named to the All-Tournament team and Honeycutt was named MVP.

The last game of the night was the Manchester and Wabash boys. Wabash would find the mark from behind the arch multiple times and led Manchester 18-5 after the first stop. Wabash would continue to dominate in the second quarter and built a 27-10 halftime lead.
Manchester would make a couple runs at Wabash in the third but the Apaches stood their ground and led 40-31 after three. In the fourth the Apaches defense remained solid as Wabash captured the county title 50-40.

In the junior varsity consolation games, Northfield defeated Southwood 26-21 in girls action, while Manchester defeated Northfield 55-29 in boys.
