Boys Varsity Basketball falls to Lapel 48 – 28
The boys varsity basketball team fell to Lapel 28-48. After a grind out win against conference and county foe Madison-Grant, Oak Hill had to turn around and play an excellent Lapel team the next night. The effort was there but the shots weren’t dropping for the Eagles as the Bulldogs won behind strong inside play and 2nd chance points. Offensively for the Eagles Jace Tonagel finished with 15 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds. Jackson Lamb had 6 points, 2 assists and 3 rebounds. RJ Shugart had 3 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Levi Trexler had 2 points and 5 rebounds, and Trenton Sweet had 2 points. The Golden Eagles are now even at 8-8 on the season.

Eleven teams wrestled for the Sectional Championship at Oak Hill High School on Saturday, January 27. Two of those teams, perennial rivals Oak Hill and Western, fought for first place throughout the tournament. Evan Miller’s win in the match for the individual championship at 175 gave Oak Hill an insurmountable lead, clinching the 2024 Sectional Championship over second place Western. The final score was 260 – 241.5. This is Oak Hill’s ninth Sectional championship in the last eleven years. Kokomo and Marion finished a distant third and fourth.
Oak Hill will send twelve wrestlers to next week’s Regional at Peru. Six of those twelve were champions of their respective weight classes. Western will also send twelve wrestlers to Regional. Three of them were champions of their weight classes.
