2 Norwell ends Lady Braves season in Sectional Semi-finals

Tonight the Lady Braves played a very good team in #2 ranked Norwell. Coming into the game, Norwell had 4 losses, all four were against top 10 ranked teams in 4A.

To start the game both teams were able to get good looks at the basket but it was Norwell’s 1-3-1 defense that gave the Lady Braves problems and that turned into points for Norwell. Norwell also shot the ball very well from behind the arch hitting 9 three point shots in the first three quarters.

For the Lady Braves, they were led in scoring by Miranda Stoll with 10 points, Bailey Carson had 5 points, Addie Maiben had 5 points, Hallie Maiben and Sydney Barnes both had 3 points. Shaelyn Powell, Chloe Smyth and Ireland Kile all had 2 points.

Miranda Stoll hit 2 (3 point shots) in the game that put her season made 3FG total to 54. Which breaks her season record from last season of 52.

The Lady Braves ended their season at 11-11 overall. The 11 wins is tied for the 2nd most wins in a season in the past 16 seasons.

The Lady Braves will miss their seven seniors. They have put a lot into our program and have shown the younger players what it really means what Brave Pride is.

Our seven seniors, Hallie Maiben, Shaelyn Powell, Bailey Carson, Miranda Stoll, Chloe Smyth, Sydney Barnes and Lauryn Merritt have done so much for our program just not on the floor but also in the class room and in the community. These seven will be greatly missed but not forgotten for what they mean to our program.

Boys Varsity Basketball beats Western (Homecoming) 98 – 78

The Braves were able to survive some great shooting from Western. The win puts the Braves record at 11-4. We are 4-1 in the TRC.

Coach Burrus Quotes: “We really put together some offense in this game. Western was better than their record. They lost in OT to Twin Lakes. They also beat Northwestern and played a bunch of teams, tough. We knew this would be a game where we had to stay with it. We outscored them in every quarter. Josiah Ball had 9 rebounds. Ethan Zeiser and Fuddy Kile each had 8 rebounds. A.J. Kelly had several great finishes. M.J. Ellis gave us 10 points off the bench. Fuddy Kile was nursing a bad ankle and really gutted it out for the team. He also lead us with 7 assists. Oakley Reeser really battled their guards up front defensively. It was a very good win for us.

Ball scores 50. New single game record -Josiah Ball continues his tremendous season. He only had 6 points after one quarter. He scored 13 in the second quarter. He had 13 in the third quarter. He then finished the fourth quarter with 18 to finish with 50. It was fun to see him do this.He was 19-35 from the field. This team shoots almost 60% from 2 point for the season. Josiah leads that 2 point cause. He shoots a very high percentage. He was also 8-10 from the line. For him to break this his junior season is amazing but we aren’t shocked. Josiah has worked so hard to do this. Congratulations to all who have had a part in this. He broke the record Bauer Maple set last year at Oak Hill. He scored 46 points. That was an incredible effort and always will be. Matt Golitko scored 41 back in the 90’s. If you see Josiah congratulate him for this accomplishment. 50 points is a lot in any game. Thanks to the fans that came. You saw a player score the most points ever in a game for Maconaquah. Close to 1500 varsity boys games have been played by Maconaquah. One player has scored 50 in one game, Josiah Ball. We’ll see what he does beyond this. What a game he had. What a player. We are very proud of him!”
