Warriors Take Final Home Game

In the final home game of the 2023-24 season, the North Miami Warriors were in desperate need of a home win. The varsity team hasn’t won a home game since their first game of last seaosn, making it 18 consecutive home losses. On an unusual Saturday afternoon, the team was hosting the South Newton Rebels. Last season, the Warriors came up just short in their double overtime battle at South Newton. This year they are looking to get some payback and end their home game drought.

The Warriors got a good three point shot to fall for them on their first possession and it gave them some good momentum. South Newton answered immediately and gave the feeling this game was going to go back and forth a lot. NM went on a 6-0 run in the middle of the quarter to go up 9-2 and the team was feeling good. The Rebels didn’t let the Warriors get too far and closed the gap to three at the end of the first. The Warriors continued their attack, but so did the Rebels. Both teams had their highest scoring quarters of the game in the second, but it was the Warriors with a 5 point halftime lead.

Although they had not trailed yet, the Warriors were not comfortable with such a small lead on the scoreboard. They wanted to move the ball around more to kill a little bit of time but also make more quality shots. Each team had their own stretches of scoring in the third quarter. One side would score 4 or 5, then the next team would do the same. The Rebels cut the lead down to 2, but could never tie or take the lead. NM held on to their 5 point lead heading into the fourth. This was the quarter that truly belonged to the Warriors, outscoring the Rebels 16-11 and consistently making shots when they mattered most. The Warriors secured a 61-51 victory and closed out their home season with a win.

The Warriors never trailed in the game and finally snap their home game losing streak at 18 and can now focus on what lies ahead of them. They have one more regular season gameand then the following week will be the start of Sectionals. Next Thursday, the Warriors head to Caston High School to take on a familiar opponent, the Comets. These two played back in December in the consolation game of the Miami County Tournament, where the Comets pulled away with a win. They Warriors are looking for more payback to close out their regular season on a good note.
