Apaches Hold Off Westview For Regional Title

The 20-5 Wabash Apaches took on 20-5 Westview Saturday at the Triton regional, winning a thriller 50-45.

Wabash trailed 9-6 after the first stop when Westview hit a three at the buzzer. The Apaches didn’t get on the board until the 4:30 mark when Kaden Vogel hit a three. Grant Ford also hit a long ball.

The game would see saw in the second with the teams trading buckets early. Ford tied the score with a three before Trevor Daughtry put the Apaches up 12-11 with a long ball. Trailing 17-15 Izaak Wright would score the next four points, followed by a Daughtry bucket to give Wabash a 21-17 lead at the half.

Wabash would lead 25-22 in the third before Westview scored 5 straight to grab a 27-25 lead. Alex Dinkins would erase the deficit with a three, followed by a Wright bucket to lead 30-27. Ford would score the last bucket for Wabash in the quarter as Wabash led 32-31 with a quarter to go.

The lead would change hands a couple times early in the fourth before another Ford three and two Daughtry free throws gave Wabash a 39-35 lead. Westview would stay close until a Daughtry three made it 44-39 with just over a minute to go. Westview missed a shot and was forced to foul with Daughtry connecting twice to make it 46-39. With 19.6 left on the clock, Westview would foul Dinkins for a third time. Dinkins, who had missed four earlier free throws stepped to the line and calmly drained both shots to make it 48-43. At 48-45 it was one more foul and two converted Daughtry free throws to seal the 50-45 win.
