The tennis team opened up their season Saturday at the Jimtown Invite, playing against Jimtown, SB Adams, and Wawasee.

In the first match of the day, Wabash fell 0-5 against an experienced SB Adams. team The Apaches competed well, but it was evident that this was their first match of the season. There were some nerves and hesitation, but the girls were able to shake that off and improve their scores in their next 2 matches!

***************************

Wabash made the long trip to Bluffton Monday night for the first dual meet of the season. Bluffton has a strong team this year, and Wabash fell 0-5. Alexa Johnson, playing at 1 singles, fell 0-6, 1-6. Her scores don’t reflect how close her match was, going into deuce multiple games. 2 singles player Hadley Schuler had her work cut out for her, and lost to a solid player 1-6, 1-6. Emma Weaver (3 singles) played the best match of her career, but eventually fell 4-6, 2-6.

Abbi Hipskind and Maddie Von Uhl teamed up at 1 doubles, playing together for just the second time this season. Abbi and Maddie fell 1-6, 1-6, as they are still learning each other’s style of play. The 2 doubles team of Bridget Bailey and Emma Adams started off strong, but couldn’t pull out a victory. Their scores were 4-6, 0-6.

The most exciting match of the night came from JV 1 singles player Sophie France. After a long battle back and forth, Sophie won in a tiebreaker! The final score of that match was 8-7 (3). Amanda Alspach (JV 2 singles) also came out with a victory, with a score of 8-3. Sophie and Amanda also teamed up to play in a doubles match, but Bluffton’s senior duo was too much for Wabash’s freshmen duo. Wabash fell 2-8.

Wabash plays in their first home match Tuesday at 5PM vs. Mississinewa.
