Tigers drop game at North Miami 4-3

Peru traveled to North Miami High School on Monday evening looking to clinch at least a share of the conference crown.

As both teams were taking their warmups, the wind was blowing straight out to center, the sun was shining, and it was warm. After the starting lineups and National Anthem, the cloud cover from the storms that were firing in Fulton County started rolling in and the wind shifted to blowing towards the right field corner and the air temp dropped a few degrees.

Peru and North Miami both went 3 up and 3 down in the first inning to start the game.

Matthew Roettger got Peru into the hit column with a single in the 2nd inning, but the Tigers couldn’t muster any more offense. North Miami also registered a hit when the lead-off batter singled off of Pitcher Ian Potts’ leg. A double play 2 batters later ended the inning.

Both teams went 3 up and 3 down in the 3rd inning as well.

Peru went 3 up and 3 down in the top of the 4th. North Miami pushed across 2 runs in the bottom half on a single and a couple of errors to take a 2-0 lead.

Roettger again singled in the 5th and stole 2nd and 3rd base, but was stranded there. North Miami went 3 up and 3 down in their half.

Potts drew a walk in the 6th to be the lone base runner for Peru. North Miami added another run in the bottom half with a walk and single. The Tigers trailed 3-0.

The Tigers rallied in their last at-bat, with 2 outs, Jaxson Manriquez and Lucas Musser both reached on errors. Bryce Hill singled to score Manriquez. Isaac Braley smoked a double to deep left-center field to score Musser and Hill. Gavin Eldridge hit a deep drive to left field but it was tracked down and caught for the final out with the game tied at 3. North Miami picked up 2 quick outs but was able to push across the winning run on 3 singles.

Ian Potts went the distance for the Tigers. He went 6.2 innings, surrendering 4 runs, 1 earned, on 6 hits, walking 2 batters, with 5 strikeouts.

The Tigers were led offensively by Roettger(2), Hill, and Braley with hits. Braley had a 2 RBI double.

The loss drops the Tigers to 17-4(7-1 TRC) on the season. They are back in action on Wednesday at Whitko at 5:30 pm.
