Squire Baseball Holds Off Knights

The Manchester baseball team defeated Southwood 5-2 Monday.

The Squires got behind early as it was 2-0 Knights in the top of the 3rd, following a homerun by opposing pitcher Jarret Denney. The Squires bats woke up and they were able to get 5 runs over the next two innings. The Knights did not score again. The Squires had 10 hits on the night. The team also played a perfect game on defense while committing no errors.

Ethan Hendrix led the team in hitting by going 3-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

Evan Martynowicz improved to 8-1 on the season with the win tonight. He threw a complete game while striking out 6.

The Squires are now tied for the conference lead with one conference game left. The team will host the Northfield Norsemen Wednesday. This will be the last home game for the 2024 season.

The Knights bats were quiet all game. Brody Height had a fantastic outing on the mound as he cruised to his pitch count. Southwood had chances in the bottom of the 7th, but left the bases loaded.

The Knights were low on arms available to pitch, so the some young guys and guys who don’t normally get in got their opportunities. They fell behind early and couldn’t recoup the deficit.
