Three County Players Advance To Regional

The Northfield and Manchester golf teams played in the Warsaw sectional Monday.

The Norsemen traveled to Columbia City Monday to compete in the Sectional Tournament. Northfield was grouped by hole averages with host Warsaw, along with Culver Military Academy, and Huntington North. The Norse fell short of the top 3 teams to advance with Warsaw taking first with a 311, Plymouth 324, and Huntington North taking the final spot with 333. Northfield would shoot 338 as a team.

Easton Shaw led the Norse and the entire field with a 75(+3), later sealing the #1 spot in a playoff with Warsaw. Shaw left no chance of a second playoff hole to come into play, as he would eagle the Par 5 18th. After sticking his second shot just inside 2ft, Shaw was able to get the job done with a tap in. Tyson Baer finished 3rd overall medalist with 76 to also advance. Tristan Hoffman finished with a 92, Gavin Brainard came in at 95, and Ryder Schram rounded it out with a 97.

Shaw and Baer took the top 2 individual scores as Manchester’s Connor Trump snagged the 3rd individual spot to have an all Wabash County representation for Regional. Regionals will be held Thursday June 6, at Stonehenge Golf Course in Warsaw. Shaw and Baer will tee off 8:00 am and 8:20 starting on hole 1.

Connor Trump put together a scrappy round of 81 on a tough course to earn the 3rd Individual spot on a non-qualifying team.

Coming down the last hole, we knew it would be a close call. He needed par to shoot 80 which is the score that advanced out last year, so we assumed he would be in the mix. He made bogey and we thought his chances might be over, but after all the scores were in he was in a tie for 3rd. That sent he and a player from Culver Military Acadamey into a playoff on the 18th hole. After both hitting their opening tee shots into the hazard, they tied the hole sending them back to play it again. They both hit solid drives this time around, and Connor had to play first into the par 5 closing hole. He didn’t take any chances and hit a solid shot that set up a long, 40 ft eagle putt. The Culver player sailed the green and struggled to find the putting surface, ultimately taking a bogey. Connor knew he only needed 3 putts to win, but he hit a great first putt and tapped in for birdie, solidifiyng his place at the regional tournament this Thursday at Stonehenge in Warsaw.
