The Peru Tigers football team fell to Logansport 49-7 Friday,

The Tigers kicked off the 2024 season at home in a new stadium, hosting the visiting Berries from Logansport for the 121st meeting between the schools. Logan held a 62-53-5 advantage in the series entering the contest. They were playing for the Baldini Trophy, named for Coach Don Baldini, who was a coach at Peru before coaching at Logansport. The trophy was established in 2016 and is given to the winner each fall.

The Tigers won the toss and differed to the second half, so Logan chose to receive the opening kick.

The Berries took possession of the ball at their 40-yard line and marched 60 yards on 9 plays, capped off by a 4-yard run for a touchdown and converted the PAT.

Peru’s 1st possession was short-lived. They took control of the ball at their own 26 and ran 1 play. Junior Isaiah Korba, who looked to be shot out of a cannon, sprinted up the middle untouched for a 74-yard touchdown run. Senior Landen Crowe converted the PAT to tie the game at 7.

Logan’s next drive started at their 26. They used 11 plays and just under 6 minutes of clock en route to their second score of the game. They converted on PAT.

Peru’s second drive started at their 49 after a decent return, and spanned the end of the 1st quarter, but went 3 and out and had to punt the ball away.

On Logan’s 3rd drive of the game, the Tigers’ defense showed a little life, forcing the Berries to punt the ball away after Korba dropped the QB for a sack.

Peru’s final 2 drives of the half both ended in punts after 6 plays and 3 plays respectively. Logan capitalized on both with an 8-play drive capped off by a 1-yard TD run and a 3-play drive ending on a 30-yard TD scamper.

Logan took a 28 to 7 lead into the break.

Peru took the kick to open the 2nd half and went 3 and out again, losing 4 yards, resulting in a punt.

Logan ran a 5-play drive, capped off by a 21-yard touchdown run.

The Tigers got a little momentum going on the next drive before a holding call stalled the offense, leading them to punt again.

The Berries took over on their own 22 and marched down the field on 9 plays, spanning the end of the 3rd quarter, and ran it in from 4 yards out, giving Logansport the margin needed to enact the running clock mercy rule.

Peru’s final drive lasted 5 plays as they turned the ball over on downs after gaining a total of 5 yards.

Logan ran 6 plays and punched it in with a 5-yard run.

The Tigers are back in action as they kick off the conference season next Friday night in South Whitley, where they will take on the Whitko Wildcats.
