The Manchester Squires football team gave Northwestern all they wanted Friday, falling to the Tigers 19-14.
Northwestern would get the first possession of the game before Eli Metzger picked off a pass, The Squires would take advantage of the mistake. With 5:46 to go in the quarter Logan Eastgate would scramble 12yds and grab a 7-0 lead. The Squires would force a fumble late in the quarter but could not capitalize.
Northwestern would tie the score early in the second which is where the half would end, tied 7-7.
Manchester would come out moving the ball in the third, marching to the Tiger 12 before giving the ball up on downs. Northwestern would hit quick, scoring on a 73yd pass for a 13-7 lead. The Tigers would extend their lead to 19-7 before Eastgate would hook up with Reiss Gaerte for a 65yd scoring strike to make it 19-14. The Squires would force a fumble late in the quarter, recovering on the Northwestern 36.
Again the defense would bend but not break in the fourth, recovering a third fumble with 4:00 left before giving the ball back on a botched pitch. The Tigers would run the clock out for the 19-14 final.
Offensively the Squires were led by Logan Eastgate with 122 yards of total offense. Rushing was led by Maddux Greer and Reiss Gaerte led in receiving. Defensively the team was lead in tackles by Mason Rooney and Reiss Gaerte. Landen Bean had two fumble recoveries and Dallas Martin had one. Eli Metzger had an interception for the Squires.
