Results from Maconaquah for Wednesday, September 4th
On Wednesday night the Lady Braves honored Seniors Finely Dobbs and Daisy Williams by winning their match over the Taylor Titans. Each Lady Brave had a caddy assisting them as part of the senior night festivities Senior Daisy Williams earned her 7th medalist honors of the season by carding a one over par 37. While a score close to par is not unusual for Daisy, the fact that she did it while also losing four balls during her round is impressive. Daisy struggled on the long 7th hole after her tee shot took a bad bounce and went into the water which lead to a double bogey. She bounced by on her last hole (number one at Rock Hollow) by hitting her 7 wood onto the green and two putting from 60 feet for birdie. Sophomore Aubrey Stoll was second in scoring for the team with a 45. Aubrey did not have the the best ball striking night, but found a way to score. Her round was highlighted by a birdied on the challenging par 5 sixth hole. Her 45 was good enough for second place in the match. Senior Finley Dobbs was third in scoring with a 48. Finely’s round got off to a challenging start after her drive on her first hole landed in a fairway bunker and she struggled on her second and third hole. After that, she bounced back to play steady golf the rest of the way. Her 48 was good enough to secure third in the match. Sophomore Delaney Duke finished with a a 50 on the night. Delaney’s game gets better with each and every match and her 50 tied her personal best score. Delaney’s driving has improved as has her iron play. As she continues to work on her short game, she should consistently break 50. Junior Jade Christopher was fifth on the team in scoring with a 66. Jade hit a wonderful tee shot to the fourth hole and made par, a rarity on the night with its front center pin position. Sophomore Emma Bond did not have a score due to a scorecard mishap, but she played with focus the entire match. Freshman Ella Hoeksema and Delaney Farhham got to play seven holes and played well. Both hit some fantastic drives and made some nice putts. The Lady Braves won the match 181 to no score for Taylor as they only had three golfers. Despite being a very young program, the Taylor Titans represented themselves well by hitting a well struck shots and putting forth great effort on each and every shot. A well deserved thank you to the Taylor Coach, Matt Phalen, for agreeing to the use of caddies for Senior Night. The Lady Braves are back in action on September 11th at Rock Hollow versus Peru and Logansport. The Lady Braves appreciate the support of all the parents, family and friends that come out and support the team each match. Both the first half and the second ended in dramatic fashion as the Maconaquah Boys Soccer team finished the match with Oak Hill in a tie. In the last 10 seconds of the first half, Bennett Isenburg beat the Oak Hill defense and danced around the goalie to put the Braves up 1-0. In the last 30 seconds of the second half, with Maconaquah still holding the 1-0 lead, Oak Hill broke thru the Mac defense to tie the game. As this is not a conference match there is no overtime. With this draw, Maconaquah is now 4-1-1 on the season. This was Oak Hill’s fifth tie of the year and they sit at 0-1-5. The Braves next play at Northwestern in a rare Saturday night game at 5 pm.
On Tuesday night, the golfers that make up the Lady Braves golf team came close to upsetting the Rochester Zebras at Round Barn. Senior Daisy Williams led scoring for the Braves with a one over par 37, which was good enough for second place overall. Daisy, a state qualifier last year, played the match with Rochester’s two state qualifiers from last year (Ava Thomas and Olivia Bailey). Daisy’s round included a near eagle on the challenging 8th hole and a fantastic up and down on the par five 9th hole. Senior Finley Dobbs and Sophomore Aubrey Stoll were paired together and played together well. Finley opened up the match with a fantastic tee shot on the par 3 third hole and just missed her birdie putt. Finely, who played well at the end of the Rochester Invitational kept in going with a final total of 47. Aubrey Stoll, who also parred her first hole, bounced back from from a double bogey on her second hole to finish with a 45 which was good enough for fourth overall in the match. Sophomores Delaney Duke and Emma Bond were also paired together. Delaney Duke hit an outstanding shot on the difficult 8th hole when her second shot bounced just short and then rolled onto the green. This solid ball striking lead to her finishing with a career best 50. Emma Bond has been fighting her swing for a few weeks and unfortunately fought it again on Tuesday night. She finished with a 61. Overall the Lady Braves finished with a 179 while Rochester ended up with a 177. In Junior Varsity action the Lady Braves were led by Junior Jade Christopher who finished with 66, which was 4 better than she shot on Saturday on the same course. The Freshman trio of Emma Morris, Delaney Farnham and Elle Hoeksema struggled with the tigh fairways and water lined holes, but each finished the nine holes and all hit some very good shots. The Lady Braves are back in action Wednesday night versus Taylor on Senior night. As always, the Lady Braves appreciate the support of all the parents, family, and friends that come out and support the team each night. PHOTOS: Aubrey Stoll prepares to tee off on the 9th Hole.
