The Manchester and Wabash boys tennis teams met in Wabash for a Three Rivers Conference matchup Thursday, Sept. 19.
In recent history the Apaches have topped the Squires in tight matches and Thursday was no different as Wabash swept the three singles matches to clinch a 3-2 win.
The Squires took a quick 1-0 lead after the No. 1 doubles team raced to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dylan Pence and Clay Shepherd.
All three singles matches followed similar scripts. Wabash’s Eli Matern took a 6-5 lead over Manchester’s Owen Harshman at in the first set at No. singles, while, at No. 2 singles, the Apaches’ Cooper Long took a 6-5 leadover the Squires’ Caleb Struble-Hedstrom in the first set, and at No. 2 singles, Wabash’s Ashton Coffman led Manchseter’s Brendyn Mugford, 6-5 in the first set.
All three Apaches clinched the first set by identical 7-5 scores then cruised to second set wins to give Wabash the team win.
In the final match of the night went the distance with the Manchester No. 2 doubles team AJ Weaver and Milo Hupp outlasting Wabash’s Karson McKenzie and TJ Tracy, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-2.
Manchester dropped to 5-6 and 2-3 in the TRC.
