The Manchester Lady Squires soccer team had a furious comeback Tuesday in the first round of sectional play against Culver Community.
During the first half the ladies possessed well, but Culver had some unfortunate breakaways that gave them the 4-0 lead. Before halftime, Samantha Shock found the net off an assist from Raimi Vawter to start chipping away at the lead. After halftime, the defense locked in led by Addison Brubaker, Chase Blevins, Molly Schannep, Karsyn Kamphues, and Maggie Onderko-White, which kept Culver scoreless.
Cora Brown had 6 big saves in the net. On the offensive end, the ladies kept their energy up as Campbell Bolinger found the net a few minutes into the second half, assisted by Samantha Shock. Ava Sautter scored the third goal for the Squires after an assist from Maggie Onderko-White from the middle. Joanna Eberly had the tying goal off an assist from Ava Sautter. The energy went into overtime and the ladies had multiple opportunities to score but couldn’t find the back of the net. During the PK shootout, Ava Sautter, Ava Baker, and London Spangle hit the first 3 shots. After Culver hit the first PK, Cora Brown had two big saves on the next two shots . The fourth Culver attempt went high to give Manchester the victory.
Manchester will advance to the second round on Thursday at 5p.
